InsureMyTrip — a travel insurance discovery platform with “award-winning customer service by a licensed team of travel insurance representatives that understand we offer in and out” — published a study last week titled “U.S. Airport Statistics & Flight Cancellation Data.”
“In an effort to empower passengers to make informed decisions when booking flights, InsureMyTrip has done some research on the performance records of U.S. airports and domestic flights,” the report explains.
The findings of this study were concluded after researchers pulled relevant data from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics. They also used InsureMyTrip’s own proprietary numbers.
Pittsburgh International Airport ranked 26th when it came to airports with the highest cancellation rates with a calculated rate of 1.77 percent. This is certainly an improvement when compared to its rate last year of 3.38 percent, a number which placed it in 17th overall.
Philadelphia International Airport, by the way, for those of you who are curious, ranked 33rd on 2023′s list with a cancellation rate of 1.61 percent. However, PHL ranked 16th overall when it came to being one of the U.S.’s busiest airports during the holidays.
As for the airport that topped the list with regards to cancellation rate, that would be Newark Liberty International Airport.
