Sustainable Business Travel

BCD Travel China, GSTC, and Colorful Earth have formed a partnership for 2024 to assist companies in their pursuit of sustainable business travel. Through collaborative efforts, the partners will introduce the “Sustainable Business Travel Strategy Guide” and a suite of training programs tailored for corporate clients, travel managers, and sustainability professionals.

Despite the growing prevalence of virtual communication and video conferencing, the significance of business travel endures. Face-to-face interactions remain crucial for building trust, fostering collaborations, and establishing partnerships. However, the environmental impact of business travel, encompassing carbon emissions and water resource consumption in transportation and accommodation, cannot be ignored. Given the urgent challenges of global climate change and biodiversity depletion, the imperative for sustainable business travel is paramount. The central challenge facing the business travel industry is how companies can effectively mitigate adverse impacts while enhancing positive contributions throughout their business travel endeavors.

The partnership between BCD, GSTC, and Colorful Earth aims to assist businesses in formulating scientifically sound and holistic corporate travel strategies. This initiative seeks to improve the capacity to measure and control potential environmental and social impacts associated with business travel, enabling companies to make informed and responsible travel decisions. The partnership may also play a pivotal role in attaining corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals.

Jonathan Kao, Managing Director for BCD Travel North Asia, states, “We share a vision that travel should not only be about reaching destinations but also about preserving them for future generations. We believe that our collaborative efforts with GSTC and Colorful Earth will inspire and enable companies operating in China to achieve their ESG goals by adhering to the highest standards of environmental stewardship and social responsibility.”

Underlining the guide’s significance, Randy Durband, CEO of GSTC, underscores, “The imperative of this guide holds heightened importance in the present context, serving as a pivotal resource for global companies embarking on the intricacies of sustainable business travel. It establishes a foundational framework, guaranteeing a business journey approach that is both environmentally aware and socially responsible.”

Koko Tang, Founder of Colorful Earth and board member of GSTC, expresses excitement about the collaboration, saying, “Our joint mission to champion sustainable transformation within the tourism sector has found a strong ally in BCD. We’re excited about this collaboration leveraging our combined strengths to establish sustainable business travel as a standard practice.”

The travel guide and training programs are anticipated to be available in the second half of 2024.
