Why I Keep Returning to the Greek Islands

There’s something about the light in Greece. The way it settles across whitewashed walls, flickers on the sea, lingers through lemon trees. And when I need a place to reset—to write, to float, to feel warm again—I always come back here.

But I don’t do resorts. I do space. I do privacy. I do villas where I can hear the sea when I wake up, and drink coffee barefoot on a stone terrace.

If you’re after that same feeling—luxury without pretence, and nature without noise—here are some of my favourite Greek villas that overlook the sea and invite you to slow down

1. Corfu – Olive Trees, Stillness & Sea Breeze

📍 Sea View Private Pool Villa, Astrakeri, Corfu

This villa is tucked in an olive grove, a short barefoot wander from the beach. The air smells like salt and citrus. You’ll find yourself cooking slow lunches, reading on the pool loungers, and watching the sea turn gold in the evening.

Perfect for: solo escapes, writing retreats, and off-grid couples.

2. Mykonos – Cycladic Chic with a View

📍 Mykonos Luxury Villas Collection

Forget the party image—there’s a quieter side of Mykonos. These villas are sculpted into the hillside, all clean lines and curves, with infinity pools that drop into the horizon. You get the views, the architecture, and if you want it, the beach clubs just down the road.

Perfect for: stylish solo travelers, friend groups, low-key luxury lovers.

3. Crete – Rugged Coastlines & Slow Living

📍 Beach Villas in Crete

Crete has a heartbeat. It’s wilder, more grounded. This villa gives you sea cliffs, total privacy, and a pool that seems to hover above it all. I stayed here once in September—it was all warm winds and wild figs.

Perfect for: nature seekers, families, and those who want a break from “busy.”

4. Santorini – Because Some Clichés Are Worth It

📍 Santorini Villas with Pools

Yes, it’s popular. Yes, it’s photographed to death. But when you’re actually sitting in a cave suite carved into a cliff, wine in hand, watching the sun fall into the caldera—it’s everything. Choose a villa away from the main crowds, with your own plunge pool and that uninterrupted view.

Perfect for: honeymoon energy, solo reconnection, and wow moments.

 5. Zakynthos – Quiet Luxury, Underrated Beauty

📍 Zakynthos Villas Collection

This island surprised me. Green, gentle, and a little less polished than the others—which makes it better. This villa near Laganas gave me a week of sea views, sunrise swims, and a local fish shack I still dream about.

Perfect for: under-the-radar escapes, slow travel, and barefoot days.

Don’t Just Visit—Sink In

I never travel to tick boxes. I go to feel things again. These Greek villas overlooking the sea? They’re not just pretty—they give you the time, space, and peace to reconnect with whatever it is you’ve been missing.
